I thought I might write an article that would be titled ‘What Were They Thinking’. In it, I was going to detail the types of people that so heartily backed Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, all in the light of what has transpired since. Since then, things have morphed into a new realm of unreality. Under Donald Trump, the favorable numbers are amazingly increased, and I dare say, some due to the secret relief felt by closeted liberals that were actually really scared of the monsters they created. Said closet liberals are still out there, still cowering in silence, but they’re not joined by all their old lib friends. It’s those old friends that I’m thinking about. I actually know a few of them myself, believe it or not. This is because my entire life is not wrapped around conservative civic life as I had and have other ways to relate to people. Of course, this means I must keep my conservatism under wraps in the digital view of some people, not hard as long as you can express yourself authentically in other ways. Most of us do so just fine with, for example, family, the polite constraints of a work environment, and other assorted formats. From that little shred of invisibility cloak, we peer out at our aghast liberal friends, unable to contain themselves, and substantially damning themselves by showing their incoherent grasp on the rudiments of our republic.
What is a legal citizen? What is a constitution and what specifically does ours guarantee? What is separation of powers? What are the functions of our three branches of government? I could go on. Then there is the logical dissonance to observe when our despairing libs had no problem with legal and illegal liberties taken by Obama or Biden but are so dumbfounded when just the legal ones are taken by Donald Trump. I wouldn’t expect them to know or admit that Biden defied a Supreme Court decision – student loan forgiveness for example – but I have yet to see Trump defy any court, even when they were arrayed against him in malicious lawfare with Frankenstein laws stitched together, solely and expressly to destroy him alone, personally, and keep him from being voted into office by We The People, ‘democracy’ indeed.
The crazed rhetoric is amazing to hear and watch. I’m still waiting for dispatches from the concentration camps that these people promised would exist. Maybe they’re still on the way, construction delays? Firing government workers is dictatorship. Remember that when you or maybe just your enemy gets laid off from a private sector job. Targeting officials that exercised not blind justice but rather, eyes-wide-open politicized persecution is also dictatorship. Stripping press credentials for mega corporate propaganda outlets that published openly acknowledged lies just because they’re ‘legacy’, big and been around awhile, why of course that’s fascism to these people.
So far, the most damning thing Trump has done is to cut off their allowance, defund liberal progressive pervert pet projects; search, retrieve, recover tens or even hundreds of billions of taxpayer funny money, (debt passed onto ourchildren, (because so many of them don’t and won’t have any children)); moneys sent away for every twisted wokism imaginable. Our own suffering people have been denied basic services so that some corrupt third world country bureaucrats could plunder cash out of the slush funds sent to them on false pretenses. DOGE, the crack team of AI analysts, are finding all these atrocities at a pace stunning to leftist, therefore, Elon Musk is an extra special fascist that deserves as much scorn as Trump. All of this is ‘evil’ according to more than one of my friends.
Evil. Attempting to balance the budget, mitigate the national debt that is in nuclear disaster waiting to happen territory, save Social Security, bring a hard stop to inflation, restore energy independence, realign our national priorities and expenditures to meet the threats we face in 2025, significantly lower our taxes in order to spur growth and prosperity. Evil.
Just, kind, and enlightened: Keep up to a trillion dollars of annual spending hidden and unaccountable to Congress, a conservative President, the courts, and the voters; all in the safe keeping of benevolent lifelong deep state bureaucrats who know better than any of us what these moneys should be spent on, constitution and you be damned. Just, kind, and enlightened.
What of my liberal friends? I think it’s too much for them to read the Constitution, they should try but I wouldn’t hold my breath. That would be a rational act requiring intellectual engagement and self-imposed honesty. Even ‘misinformation’ doesn’t fully explain their river of de-nile. It’s more useful to understand their dysphoria as engagement with mythology. There be dragons over yonder. They’re detached from reality. Billion$, trillion$, just an abstract whiff of smoke floating through the air with no sense of how that comes back home to roast on the kitchen table of your typical working-class family. They don’t have to stand a foot from the ledge at the Canal Street subway platform while a crazed illegal is inexplicably ambling toward them. Rage comes easily from the comfort of the TV room couch, straight to Facebook or BlueSky or wherever. I say all of this but there are some still confident that righting the Republic can be beat, that the deep state can still win.
It might seem I’m simply an apologist for the ‘Trump Train’. Do I think this whole episode is perfect? Certainly not. My entire adult life, which has stretched quite awhile now, I’ve watched administration after administration say they would reform the government. They appointed commissions, czars, and made reports that merited an evening or two of news casting and nothing changed. They. Failed. Trump is the first one ever in our modern history to break that mold. Mistakes are being made, minor and procedural in my opinion, but the mistakes are fixable and the alternative is to fail just like all that ostensibly ‘tried’ before.
We’re getting an intervention just in the nick of time before we fall into the abyss of fiscal and ideological ruin from which we’d never return. I really believe my lib friends do not and cannot fundamentally understand that, so just let them howl into the void.
