I’m at partial variance with my conservative peers on a couple issues – not many, just a couple. This would apply to half of the equation regarding illegal immigration. My take is that we actually do need more immigration into this country, but I’m in full agreement when it comes to the legality with which it should be accomplished. Presently, and in recent history, we’ve had Democrat administrations that were in open defiance of US law barring illegal entry into this country. Technically that should result in their removal from office for failure to uphold their constitutional duty, but I’m not holding my breath. Unfortunately, enough people are in sympathy with law-breaking executives that they’re instead protected.
The reason why I believe we need immigrants is for very different reasons than what Democrats want out of it. We need them to fill jobs, keep a LOT more production state side, contribute to the GDP, pay taxes and social security so that that system doesn’t go broke, and bolster a demographic deficit that is already showing and will get worse over the next couple of generations.
What Democrats want are raw votes and recipients for their socialist welfare giveaways that they seem to believe will earn them mommy-state supremacy in perpetuity. They want illegal immigrants to want free stuff, which they plan give them. Same immigrants, very different objectives than conservatives. I think it’s also fair to say that they would like to see more social radicals and enough cultural anomalies imported and inserted into red state communities to permanently disrupt them. This might be more a matter of pure spite than a practical objective.
The conundrum is this: If both sides actually need immigrants – but for very different reasons – how do we manage that process? I believe it’s easier to control the flow, direction, and outcomes of illegal immigration than it may be to put a hard stop to a party that has heretofore successfully flouted our laws with impunity. Imagine that we were able to put a complete stop to the current flood of illegal immigrants crossing our border right now. What would we do with a million or so that have already come in?
Our ultimate goal should be for them to identify as conservatives. That may not be all that difficult given that many immigrants come from countries that already have traditional and cultural conservatism. The promise of America is economic and its upward mobility. It may not matter that this is far less true than it used to be in the United States because even though we’ve regressed, a lot of other countries are still much worse off.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that nobody is beating down the doors of America to make their into trannies, or to sit at home and wait for a welfare check to show up in the mail, or to pitch a tent on the excrement- and drug-paraphernalia-littered streets of San Francisco. They don’t want liberal welfare state squalor, they don’t want CHAZ, they don’t want to join Antifa. These things far more resemble what they just left and those memories are burned into their minds. By and large immigrants come to America to work, make money, have material goods, have their kids grow up and get educated and become successful upwardly mobile citizens without worrying about death squads coming to their door at midnight to kill them. It’s pretty straightforward.
We should give a little bit more credit to most illegal immigrants themselves for being smarter than their Democrat enablers. They want the opportunity to succeed.
If we can, we still need to get control of immigration at our borders if for no other reason than that the lawless Democrats – once they understand that they can break, explain away, and abuse those laws – will likely find no legal barrier that they’re not willing to cross. Some immigrants are indeed a criminal and terrorist threat. Democrats welcome those as well with equal fervor. No doubt, they have to be aggressively weeded out and escorted out.
Illegal immigration is a massive travesty of humanitarian abuse. Regardless of whether you think every last one should be deported tomorrow, at some point there needs to be a plan B because very little is going to change in the near term. Wring your hands or think strategically.
