To all my Democrat friends
I understand political loyalty. I understand that in local and sometimes state and national office, Democrats often do make fine civil servants even when they take positions I don’t agree with. I understand that often, a person chooses to take the whole party slate in order to promote the platform that you believe in. I get all of that. What I don’t get is what I read as true belief in Hillary in some of you.
I understand that there are a large number of people voting for Hillary as a stroke of conscience against Trump. I don’t understand that you don’t seem to recognize or have tolerance for the same streak in your Republican friends. My historical impression of Democrats was that they were not only true issue voters, albeit, ones that I often disagreed with, but that they also had a moral component as when they protested the Vietnam war after the disclosure of the Pentagon papers or held Nixon accountable for his crimes or took a stand against the Iran-Contra affair. These all now seem like such ancient history now.
For some of you, there is nothing that your candidate could do that would dissuade your fervor. Just admit it. She could be standing over a bloody body and you would still say there is no proof. Tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of emails later, documenting her breathtaking corruption and you’re still in denial. You can tell me that you must have her because she is the only barrier to Trump, I will understand where you come from, but don’t give me the no-proof bullshit. Otherwise, you have no mores.
I don’t understand why more Democrats have not defected to the Libertarians or Greens. The two-party mantra seems to be almost stronger than Hillary fervor. The hate against your own people for taking a principled candidate stand is illuminating. It seems far more Republicans have taken a stand against Trump than Dems of Hillary. The only sentiment I hear out of the Dems is consternation that she got caught, not that she also is an insatiable corrupt remorseless politician – far worse than the kind that Democrats used to go after. If you still consider yourself a true Hillary believer, you have become the enemy you used to despise.
