Jon Stewart: The American media has become an “information-laundering scheme”
Web Publication: Quartz, by Annalisa Merelli
The new dawn in media
Jon Stewart…[breath, exhale, sigh]. Jon is the new prophet of media integrity. Since the election, a lot of people have ‘gotten religion’ and media behavior and integrity has gone from tertiary complaint status to serious discussion. Jon is at the forefront of this introspection. I can’t argue with much of anything he is quoted as saying in this article. It’s actually quite good. I’m just left with slight “wha?” Jon, whom hosted a highly successful fake news show for years.; Jon, whom as I recall, was lockstep with the great Hillary media machine through most of the campaign – yes, the media that advocated for her , then only told her what she wanted to hear? As I recall, Jon’s conversion perhaps did start prior to election night. His commentary became only a little more sober before the others.
I do respect Jon to a point, but here’s what I’d like to hear him suggest in this new dawn of media: If you’re going to do comedy, do comedy. If you want to do serious news, get off the comedy channel. If you want to be a liberal pundit, go join MSNBC. Stop masquerading as one thing and hitting us up with another. If your humor isn’t bipartisan, it isn’t humor. For that matter, if your news isn’t bipartisan, it isn’t news! Stop and think about that a moment! If Jon wants to carve out a niche for himself in this new role, that’s great, just make sure there is truth in labeling.
