This insight will require you to examine two articles dealing with A) the extreme right and B) the extreme left. Here they are:
I Helped Create the Milo Trolling Playbook. You Should Stop Playing Right Into It
Web Publication: Observer.com
By: Ryan Holiday
Anti-Milo organizer: Window-smashing Cal protest ‘stunningly successful’
Web Publication: San Francisco Chronicle
By: Matier & Ross
I won’t delve into the immediate politics referred to in each article. I do want to point out that there are multiple layers of tactical thought behind the proliferation of protests and stunts by the far left and the far right. It is skewing the media covering those events.
Ryan Holiday describes the development of tactics designed to manipulate and leverage the media. He goes on to describe how Milo Yiannopoulos of ‘alt-right’ fame is using his methods to troll the pubic.
The Matier & Ross article describes a far left protester, Mr. Cruz, protesting Milo, and finding glory in violent property destroying protests. The irony is that Milo and Mr. Cruz both benefit by outrageous public acts designed to manipulate the media and ultimately us.
The tactics employed by Milo and Mr. Crux use attention-getting leverage at our expense. You are being played. The media are either cooperating with or being used by the extremist and we in turn, are the fools taking the bait. Be aware that nothing is as it seems behind the story. We tend to assume the media to be wiser but they are often just as, or more gullible than the public. Don’t be led astray.
