A regular Wednesday feature that takes a summary look at hot news issues surrounding Trump during the past week
This week Trump was let down by the Republican led congress on the repeal of Obamacare, or maybe he wasn’t. Several months ago, I suggested that Trump really has no opinion about a specific health plan except to obtain an abstract ‘win’. Well it turns out that that is so true that, as reported today by one news-piece, he’s just as happy to allow Obama-care to stay and fail even harder than it is already failing. I have to admit I didn’t even think of that or that his nonchalance went that far. This is the equivalent of a ‘let it all burn’ mentality. Specific to pure politics, it’s so insane that it might even work for him politically. Progressives get to keep their stinky prize and conservatives get to keep and even amplify their ‘I told you so’-s. What’s not to like about that? Unfortunately, our health care system goes further into structural disrepair. What if this is the new tack for all hot button election issues? Trumps base is secure no matter what and congress is the bogeyman. Winning is losing is winning.
The leaks out of the Whitehouse continue, yet another chapter of Russia-gate is winding down, the press is getting exhausted from its non-stop coverage, and the public simply yawns. So tiresome.
This is not a desirable condition for a government and its peoples. But what if government – and in this case, that mean the Trump administration and era, what if it just quits working and becomes bogged down in its own terminal ineptitude and no one notices or cares anymore? How necessary was that government to begin with? That may become the back-handed Trump legacy of success. Winning is losing is winning.
