This is a summary look at hot news issues surrounding Trump during the past week.
The news dominating the Trump administration this week is mayhem, infighting, leaks, and even resignations. Executive orders have taken a back seat. Nevertheless, because EOs have been a source of so much angst for so many who don’t bother to search or present the context, I’ll provide some resources right here…Thank you.
AJV.com posted an article: Here is every executive order Trump has signed
The Daily Signal provided great context: How Trump’s Executive Orders Line Up With Past Presidents
Where Trump’s initiatives should succeed:
Obama-care | Repeal and any subsequent comprehensive healthcare reform is delayed. It should be taken as a positive that the Trump administration is moving with more deliberation to replace something of this magnitude. The Obama-care monstrosity took years to build. It’s reasonable that two major industries: health care and health insurance, need time to be redirected. Obama-care was in its death throes even as Trump took office. Lets get it right this time.
Where we should take a wait and see approach to Trump’s initiatives before we get the pitchforks:
Russia | Russia’s entanglement in our own affairs and news is astounding. Foreignpolicy.com ran a piece that is alarming to the point of head-spinning. Where do you even start? Who do you believe? Whenever news verges into both global politics along with spy-craft, it’s especially foolish to take an early position. Lets just hope that the people in the know have our back. “Something is rotten in Denmark.”
Soft Coup | Relevant to the Russian affairs, and the intrigues I referenced at the beginning of this piece, speculation has it that something akin to a soft coup (or worse) is not out of the question. There is actually a provision for it in our constitution. Here again, who do you believe? Is this media exaggeration or is it that bad? It is in our best interest for Trump and his administration to work through the learning curve and growing pains and emerge stronger and more sober, but if Trump were to indeed loose his marbles, the 25th amendment is there to kick in.
Where Trump’s initiatives should fail:
Kellyanne Conway | Damaged goods, not worth the trouble or loyalty. Move on and replace. The presidency is too important to waste defending anyone that muddled.
Water over the dam:
Flynn | I mentioned somewhere that the resignations would start flying early with this administration. I actually felt a little stupid in the weeks after this as the cabinet was being formed and things seemed to be rolling smooth for awhile. Well here we are and it’s started – quite early. Whether it’s a political ‘assassination’ or just a misunderstanding, it doesn’t matter. Something went wrong either during the selection or how the administration is being managed now. Choose your poison. But at least I was right, at least there’s that.
