There remains in the matter of Ukraine and aid for their defense, two camps; a camp that is ‘all in’, and one that sees the whole affair as a ruse for expanding the globalist agenda. A third camp may be developing, one that’s for basic defense but has some alarm over the wanton throwing of money at the conflict, for reasons similar to what the naysayers hyped all along. While most people favor delivery of tactical ground weapons systems and technological support to Ukraine, the $40-billion assistance package is a sign of mission creep or part of a larger effort to fund broader causes that have little to do with arming the Ukrainians. One report suggests that many billions out of that $40B sum are headed to our own CIA. If so, there will be shenanigans. Even most conservatives in Congress won’t care to cross examine the funding until a year or two later when another war is made from whole cloth. Funding basic defense in Ukraine is essential and so too will be the rebuilding after the Russians are driven out in defeat. That’s where it must remain and no more. That does not make you or me a globalist. It’s strictly a matter of self-interest to stabilize Eastern Europe and food supplies for dozens of other countries, without which there will surely be some famines and inconvenient revolutions. Even if you’re a hardened nativist bastard with no concern for who starves, your bank account will ultimately suffer or not depending on how well Ukraine lands after the war. The economic ripples will still be stretching around the globe. We serve ourselves if we get this right.
