We’re already living in a post pandemic country. Sure, there are still cases, some states having mini surges, but the real parameters are well within the scope of other infectious illnesses. In spite of this, liberals are stuck in grave fear. I’ve seen this up close and personal on Facebook, reading the comments of people for whom there is no caution too great, to the extent that they are personally ready to sign onto any amount of government coercion necessary to compel anyone hesitant about the vaccine. I would summarize their logic this way:
The vaccine works
therefore
You [everyone else] must get a vaccine
because
We are not safe until you get the vaccine
therefore
The vaccine does not work unless everyone receives it
consequently
Until then, we have to live the same as if there were no vaccine
In this progression, the liberals and extremely fearful, mostly the same crowd, have set up a conundrum. They insist that others get a vaccine for which they demonstrate they have no faith in for their personal wellbeing. Consequently, they are constrained to use all the same measures that they used pre-vaccine; masks, social distancing, no gatherings. They then turn around and demonize the non-vaccinated for relegating them to pre-vaccine life. This is not just an idle sentiment. They are then willing and ready to endorse an unspecified list of penalties on the unvaccinated.
These sentiments go all the way to the top. We already know that Biden, Fauci, Democrats up and down the line, and their politicized agencies are pushing the vaccine mask conundrum hard. This is not news. But it’s important and instructive to realize that this is not just coming from the top down and their dumb followers are just blindly following along – even if that’s true in some cases. There are tens of millions of people that have lost all objectivity and function out of visceral fear. Sure, that fear has been carefully cultivated by the left leadership, first as a necessity to dispense with Trump and now to justify emergency radicalism by the Biden ™ administration, and even then, there is still genuine fear emanating out of their own inner liberal DNA.
What kind of rationale are these people using? If you don’t get vaccinated, you’re not patriotic, you are selfish. This alone should be alarming to any liberty loving person. Selfish is a motive not an act. They can at best only assume motives, but then to use that as cause? They’d use that as a basis to dispatch with your civil liberties? At whatever point their fear response becomes politically actionable, what might that entail? No fly lists, barred entry to some or all stores? These are the exact consequences predicted with ‘vaccine passports’. How about forced vaccination? If we cross that threshold, what barrier will exist for any other forced medical intervention? Sterilization, psychiatric ‘treatments’?
The greater issue is this: we have millions of vaccinated people going around with a notion far more selfish than anything that the non-vaxxers are feeling. In their quest for an extra quarter percent of assurance that a trace of Covid will make it from a dwindling pool of non-vaccinated people, break through to the five percent or less that experience breakthrough infections, hit them with the vastly far smaller percentage of a chance that they would have critical symptoms, for all of that, they’re willing to dispense with the human rights that unvaccinated people have over their own bodies. This is profoundly Orwellian. Rather than use a carrot, they insist on a stick, an unprecedented big and ugly stick, reminiscent of much darker governments in history.
If the vaccinated want to induce the non-vaccinated to come along with them, the first thing that they, Biden, and Fauci can do is take off their damn masks and burn them. They need to stop the coercion rhetoric which reinforces the fear in some that vaccinations are a government ploy to harm or subdue masses of people. Last, they need to stop their overt politicizing of Covid which creates a whole secondary market of reasons to avoid anything with the governments hand in it.
Relevant to this article, I’m vaccinated and believe everyone should be free to make their own medical choices and take responsibility for their own health.
