For millennia, walking or harnessing an animal was the only means of traveling on land. Heating for survival, comfort, and for countless industrial applications when needed was made by burning combustibles that are by today’s standards, the worst polluters, and sources of carbon. A hundred years of innovation with various fossil fuels resulted in vastly more efficient and clean use of energy. Nuclear energy produced the cleanest mass energy source ever harnessed by man. Today, we no longer see the huge strides in energy capacity that occurred in prior decades. We’re tweaking windmills, solar cells, and batteries, but with serious scarcity of essential raw materials and in ways that are not scalable towards true independent cost efficiency. Somewhere within the last 20 years, we changed our focus from working technology to ‘global warming’, a malady that requires a great deal of myopic attention, peer affirmation and conformity, and symbolic belief.
The religious devotion to the global warming pillar of progressivism is based on an idiotic misrepresentation of what the earth does on its own on a geologic scale. Because climate never stops changing, the climate elite cherry picks geographic regions that fit its definition of ‘losing’, for example, ice loss, and ignores the areas that are net gainers of optimal climate moderation. It automatically weaponizes all weather to construe all large events and trends as a support to it’s claims. Decade after decade, they promulgate that the oceans will rise tomorrow while seaside resorts do just fine with no intervention. It methodically embraces socialism as the only structural system in accord with its goals while all capitalism is equated as a threat, never mind that most working socialist systems are years behind capitalistic systems in environmental technology or they simply don’t give a damn in deference to the priorities of the party. All of these are driven with a force that demands unwavering conformity and tolerates no cross examination.
Before there was global warming, we sought innovation for the sake of cost efficiency and quality of life, measured in human exertion and environmental comfort. This is what drove ‘clean technology’ for the entire history of man up until that last several decades: capitalism and human-centric self-interest; ironically the very two foundational causes that the ‘global warming’ cabal finds abhorrent and wants to eradicate; the two motivations they believe stand in the way of their sense of progress.
There is no argument with anyone breathing cleaner air, drinking clean water, having fuller biodiversity, and notably also having cheap energy, having our cake and eating it too. These are not what the left wants. Under the banner of climate change, they’ve championed the eradication of capitalism, the establishment of world socialism, the redistribution of wealth from Western nation states to the third world who will not be applying those sums to a cleaner earth; and domestically from the producers of technology and wealth to the non-producing consumer welfare class. They’ve even brought perverse sexual preference into the climate change equation and perverted doctrines of faith to suit their new victim identity religion
If you’re an outspoken climate change activist, you’re probably leftist in your orientation. You likely identify with Bernie Sanders or AOC; you may even identify with Antifa. You likely believe all energy companies are evil, that eating meat is violence against the earth. If you drive a car, it’s probably still gasoline propelled but that doesn’t stop you from hating others that drive gasoline driven cars, but you have no qualms against your heroes of the left arriving at climate change conferences in private jets and multi-car SUV entourages. Or you may in fact be higher in the climate change food chain. You may be a college professor with an ax to grind. You may even teach math or sciences and will point to the mountain of peer reviewed conformity to bolster your own beliefs, but you don’t believe in science enough to empower anyone to harvest the universe’s energy because your politics eclipses both your mind and your imagination. If you’re in the social sciences, or the plethora of new identity studies, there is very little chance that you have a mind capable of doing anything but conforming to the dogma of the hour.
It’s easier to scream for world socialism to address a .5-degree temperature rise at some glacial weather outpost than it is to buckle down and pick up where we left off in technological advances. The universe is full of energy and our own earth has more energy 50 miles under our earth’s crust than we could ever use in a billion years. We haven’t seriously tried to get it aside from sending off token grants to a few obscure scientists. We hardly made any effort to harness the vast hydraulic power of ocean tides. We can power a submarine with nuclear power but we’ve not attempted to scale smaller and safer nuclear processes to smaller cities and towns. The universe is full of combustible hydrogen and yet even though it was first harnessed to power a vehicle in 1807, we have no mass usage of hydrogen fuel technology even today. While we’ve come a long way in building batteries and solar cells, they’re still dependent on rare earth materials that are not dependably sourced or require even child labor to mine them. This is unacceptable.
The universe is full of energy, the only problem is getting to it. The only way to get to it is technology. Learning from how we found success in the past, the most reliable channel for technology is when the government supports raw basic science and allows unfettered applied science by the private sector, capitalism.
Everything I’ve said here so far is unacceptable to the climate change-left and is proof that their sole concerns are social domination, political power, and secular religion, and has nothing to do with the earth. The Holy Order of Climate Change is not interested in transformative technologies that would further negate their claims. Technology thus becomes a plank of conservatism.
