In the drama that is the removal of illegal immigrants in the United States, now in full swing by the Trump administration, one argument among many that occasionally just barely surfaces should be far more prominent: stay home and build your own country. The earth is a big place. I’m not naive about the reasons so many people want to come here. Some people do face mortal persecution in their own country. On the other end of the scale, traditional legal immigration, disingenuously cited by Progressives, encouraged the most promising cast-aways to come here and make our lives better as a result, but at the cost of excluding those who would not contribute, even if they were merely sick. The proponents of massive immigration, aka proponents of perpetual breaking of standing law, or really, the proponents of open borders, these are the people that truly feign naivety, but otherwise have a well-defined forceful agenda behind their tearful and angry complaints. It isn’t so much about helping poor struggling people, as if America is the only place that can fulfill that task. To them, it’s holding out the dream in order to dilute conservative America forever and to make it something other than what the hapless immigrant thought they would get. It’s the duty of the United States to keep itself as the shining beacon of hope to other nations and to do that, it must be something other than open borders. How else do you explain the support of deportations by none other than the recent legal immigrants? It should be far easier for nations to adopt American values abroad than to send them here and diminish their native land of its most promising generation.
What made America great and does that work elsewhere? We’ve tried [semi-forceful] nation building with limited success but what if a people were to willfully copy our success totally of their own accord and avoided our mistakes? What if they copied our constitution, armed their own law-abiding citizens, protected their own borders as we used to do and are starting to do again? What if they only elected leaders that vowed to abide by their new America-like constitution? What if they expected their leaders to be moral and punished them lawfully when they strayed? What if they adopted ‘Yankee’ frugality, developed and maintained a patent system and respected all forms of private property as we mostly have done until recently? What if their people could speak their mind freely without retribution, worship where and who they wanted, associated with whomever they wanted to? What if they rewarded the hardest working and allowed them to keep the fruits of his labor? If they could do all these things in their own land, why would they leave all and risk all including their very life to come to the United States where so many of these rights and rewards have been under assault so much recently? The alternative under our recent Democrat rule and initiative here, when their own nation building seemed like too much work, they just came here, collected welfare, free medical benefits, cell phones and AMT cash cards, and sent huge sums of cash back to their native lands. I’m convinced though that the majority of them would rise to their own occasion if they were given the right prodding to do so, but only if the option of coddling were removed.
I know all this sounds Pollyanna naïve but its pretty cynical to assume the rest of the world are just lazy coward opportunist ready only to take our free lunch handouts but some of them really do care about their country of root. I suspect our own wayward Progressives are the loose link in this whole process as their thirst for new voters they can make or keep from our own soil is not going so well.
Scarcity adds value, both to those that are here and those that want to come, likewise unlimited accessibility greatly diminishes the American experience for all and that is an objective of the left. We need immigrants and I’m all for them coming, as long as they’re legal, vetted, and certified. However, most should stay in their land of origin where they can labor to build their own America abroad and benefit all their own children and descendants.
