I know I write more about politics than is healthy so I need to reclassify this little missive. It is social phenomenon. Really, it is, but it involves political figures, Trump of course and by extension, his administration, and beyond that, Congress. Republicans, the majority holders in state governments and all their voters. The hate is flying, but not from the aforementioned, they are the victors collecting their spoils. It’s the other party; the press class, the coasts, New Yorkers, Hollywood, the losers in a modest majority of states. You see it in SNL, CNN, The Washington Post, a whole network of losers In Washington DC. You see it in the over-the-top homo-erotic mockery toward the presumed Trump-Putin axis which is really a continually evolving mythology that lost touch with reality somewhere between the election and the Inauguration. You see it in the meltdown of higher education into Stalinist like rigor towards any open political thought that does not adhere to the Revolution. ‘The Resistance’, that coalition of self appointed ‘saviors’ dedicated to the destruction of anything Trump, even when it agrees with their own values. Destruction for the sake of destruction.
So yes, I’m really tired of all this but tired doesn’t really express my feeling. As a non-Trump voter, I have no feeling to protect the ‘philistine’ Trump, Trump the capitalist, reality star, and gambling magnate. Like with any President, I don’t agree with his whole agenda, nor do I disagree with all of it. That alone makes me unfit by the standards of ‘The Resistance’. In Revolutionary France, I would be a marked man. How dare anyone speak of moderation? So interpreting these passions, I think I personally feel alarmed that so many ostensibly educated people have become so dangerous. I don’t trust you. Personally, physically, socially. Of course you now limit your distains to shouting, and maybe a shove here or there. But someday, if you’re ever in power again in the meaningful future, you’ll be coming for me. If not physically, then for my retirement, or my healthcare, and certainly for my freedoms. Such is the logical extension of your rage. What you do in the name of America is not America, it’s become hate for the sake of hate using Trump as a pretense. You’re divorced from reality. When your center of political gravity comes from SNL, that middling institution of mockery that can’t seem to be detached enough to qualify as humor, well….. Houston, we have a problem.
I know a majority of people that identify elsewhere from Trump are separate from the hate party I describe. You look after your pocket book first, you think local, you take the kids to soccer and patiently wait for the next election. You’re reassuring. I probably agree with you on a position here or there. I can only hope you find it in yourself to keep some distance from the hate fest.
To the true Trumpites, I agree with you on some points, but not all of them. Your guy has some serious flaws and he always seems a step away from the precipice. But because he occupies the office of the Presidency, I hope he succeeds. He’s a caretaker of that office and he has a huge obligation to hand it to someone else someday, intact. I believe he can do that. As scattered as he is, he still has more to recommend his success than ‘The Resistance’ would offer.
