Uncle Joe: Uncle Joe Biden is officially in; however, even with one headline claiming an 8-point advantage over Trump, I’m not changing my prediction that he will crumble – internally. I speculated that he might not run and that if he did, he would not hold up, because he personally, really doesn’t want it.
Trump ‘legal’ woes: Trump is besieged in the aftermath of Barr’s release of Mueller report text. Various points of loudly publicized pressure include talk of impeachment on the basis of a report conclusion that did not reach that conclusion, tax return pressure, and other various defections. All of this is coming through the lens of the media which has a pretty poor reliability rating with Trump prognostication. I think Trump’s primary problem in these efforts is reacting as if they have more validity than they actually have; this from the perspective of established executive privilege. The press would have you believe that he’s claiming executive rights he doesn’t have. While numerous questions could ultimately end up in court, as an older person with a long memory, I’ll suggest that he will win whatever goes to court.
Trump the candidate: This is another story. I don’t see the level of Democrat cohesion necessary to unseat Trump – at all, but that doesn’t mean that Trump can’t unseat himself. He might keep ‘winning’ – until he doesn’t. I’m skeptical that he can keep up the lucky streak to and beyond a second term. His administration is reportedly pure chaos and sooner or later, you run out of competent people willing to put up with that. If Trump were to croak today, and look 10-15 years down the road, he would be regarded as an unusually successful president in spite of the incredible baggage; and yet, that will not be the case indefinitely.
Green Deal: (which is really a euphemism for bald state control) The Green Deal is not quite the campaign headliner it was even a few weeks ago. It has made its way into the underlying lexicon of vague concepts meant to evoke something progressive and also, a meaningless slogan to be exploited for anything and by anyone left of center. Within a couple years, you’ll be seeing plastic Green Deal Slurpee cups. If you take the Green Deal at face value, here’s what it means: print money…on a scale never before seen in America, and if that were ever to happen, it would mean wheel barrels of worthless cash.
AOC: She has been reduced to a face in the news – sort of like a branded image. To the extent that her words can be blocked out, she’s relevant.
