There is a sequence of thought, caution, and action that I must engage in on behalf of myself and my family. We live in a dangerous world, something we’ve forgotten and ignored. Most peoples in most ages, in most societies, lived closer to the edge. We’ve been lucky. For a very short period of time, a nation built on Judeo Christian values afforded us – gradually at least, – a measure of safety that has been an anomaly to history. That is coming to an end. We’ve been used to routine things like: Allow your teen age son or daughter to take the car, drive to friend’s house, enjoy their company, come home safe. Now it’s a mine field. Will they encounter random violence on the way? Will their friends offer them a hit of some presumed safe recreational drug that ends up being laced with a fatal dose fentanyl? Will an illegal alien thug let out by the woke city DA mow them down with a stolen car? Maybe some of these are still low chances but based on the news, each and every one and a dozen more possibilities need to be carefully considered before you or someone you love goes out. The point here is that even though it’s technically low chances, compared to just a few years ago when those odds were virtually nil, today is an extremely dangerous world. I compare it to the jungle where every organism is another’s dinner, except in this case, the root cause isn’t hunger, it’s due to an interconnected web of malice, moral collapse and broadly failing societal competence.
An example of in my own circumstance has to do with what used to be periodic low-key adventures to explore New York City. I used to write about this context more but as time goes on, I have less direct exposure from which to draw. New York City is one of several epicenters of extreme dysfunction in this country. It was not too long ago that it was far safer than much closer destinations like Baltimore. So Mayor Adams, Governor Hochul, if you’re watching, this is what my visit matrix looks like and why I can no longer come and just meander around whenever and however I want, me and millions of others like me.
If I come to NYC, will I drive into the city or take public transportation? If I drive, pay mega bucks for parking, I’ll also be hit with congestion tolls. A day trip to and within NYC is now in the hundreds of dollars just for transportation. How about taking the train to subway, or as I was formerly fond of, sneaking over to Statin Island and taking the free ferry to Battery Park. Then the subways? The subways are now a life and death proposition. No one bothers you, fine, but what if a mentally deranged homeless violent victim of white supremacy released without bail individual decided to give you a sudden bump in the ass onto the tracks into an oncoming train? Practically a daily headline of the New York Post now; saw one just today. Maybe instead it will be one of the growing hordes of illegal immigrants let into the country and shipped to NYC, these include violent gang members. Maybe I’ll be accosted in the subway car by one of the perpetual riders, begging – demanding money? What if I decide to defend myself? As per news stories, that will make my plot exponentially worse. God forbid that I use a gun because CCW is still functionally illegal in NYC and I will be prosecuted into instant destitution for that, so maybe I can use a knife or even my bare hands. No, as we have learned, if you defend yourself from any protected class of attacker, especially black or illegal alien, the city and state of New York will pointedly and viciously destroy your life without mercy. Can’t Mayor Adams or Governor Hochul step in and fix this? They could try, at which point, they would become the victims of their own city councils and legislatures that would and have blocked their efforts, and then run them out of office, not that they’ve barely lifted a finger to try because their minds are also quite blighted by wokeness. Well couldn’t the voters fix this? Couldn’t they elect new councils, legislatures, mayors, governors? They could, they haven’t, they don’t and won’t. Checkmate.
New York City seems like a vibrant place from afar. Millions of people do their thing day in and day out and they don’t suffer the misfortunes I just described. Certainly, they know and have their safe and alternative routine that an outsider like me would not be privy to. I could just do it, hope for the best. That’s the fate of many New Yorkers that have no other choice, but why should I take that chance? Prior to the travesty named DeBlasio, the city was overwhelmingly, even gratuitously safe compared to now; now is different. Here is the sick reason why: it isn’t potential attackers that I fear as much as a terminally woke government, particularly the judiciary. If they determine or even interpret anything I do as offensive to their woke victim class constituency, they will make sure my life is over. That is the unacceptable risk.
