I must confess that I do not read or listen to much mainstream/liberal-progressive media anymore. I used to keep things more ‘balanced’ because, ‘know thine enemies’ but that has become increasingly onerous. There comes a point in any relationship that includes gaslighting and psychotic vitriol and you must cut off that relationship; for mine/your own sanity, you just cut it off. I’m becoming more convinced that progressives are in a deep mass advancing mental illness but that’s a story for another time. I do monitor some stories, including a daily e-newsletter from the New York Times. I believe it’s sent out as an outreach to all of us that are too wise to waste a dime on their paid indoctrination and it is true to form, mostly biased, selective, tell-one-side fake journalism. It’s editorial tone is also typical of the NYT, puffed with authoritative arrogance that comes with the belief that they are superior to all other media. This is not new, but one aspect is changing; they’re following a national trend of painting themselves into the furthest ideological corner typified by the most outlandish hateful progressive hustlers anywhere. It has progressed something like this:
First, there used to be Democrats – our friends, and Republicans who are our enemies.
Then there were Democrats – our friends, Republicans who are our enemies, and Trump Republicans who are devils.
Now, there are Democrats – our friends, and Republican devils.
And just as quickly, this is now Democrats – our friends, and devils.
O the civility, a winning formula indeed.
Again, I’m not an expert on liberal progressive media because I keep my soul clean by avoiding most of it but from what I see, this is the drift of the entire major media establishment as they follow the most radical elements in this country off the cliff, carrying their water for them.
How can such a movement save itself? It can’t, certainly not by retracing their steps back from the edge of the cliff. Their trajectory is like shrinking CNN; following the most ridiculous takes on news, even while the average Joe has long since hit the pause button on the media’s calls to follow them to the furthest place of hate, race baiting, take your children, succumb to pharma-fascism, take your paycheck and retirement too and give it to illegals, and on and on and on, media marches on with a smaller and smaller following.
So I say, in a move comparable to “tear down this wall” I would say to the editor at the New York Times daily news letter and every other left wing rag out there: fire half your staff and replace them with conservative journalist. Yuk, yuk, yuk, you say laughing? Honestly, why would you really be afraid of to do so? You make shallow public claims to not be propagandist, a transparent lie; are you really that afraid to have alternative opinions printed in your newsletter, spoken on your nightly broadcast, published in your glossy mag? Or do you like not having to compete with a factual presentation of the full story? It’s so easy now, isn’t it? You just clear everything with the big guy that answers to the big guy that answers to his big guy and keep all the comma splices straight and just keep awarding yourself fake journalistic awards. No pride, but plenty of orgiastic self-affirmation and a paycheck. Meanwhile, the ideological corner you’re painting for yourself keeps getting smaller and smaller.
Here’s a thought. The NYT will not be around forever. Someday, the gavel will come down on 620 Eighth Ave. NY, NY. Maybe not in our lifetime or maybe it will, but I can suggest this, you can go one of two directions; you can follow the radicals into their ever so short life cycle, or you can return to the roots of journalism. It doesn’t take a PHD from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism to understand that one has better chances than the other on a historic scale.
