We’re now Day x, 4? into the impeachment mess. How much do I care? Hardly at all. The ruling class and media seem clueless to how numb we all are to the perpetual shit-storm day after day, year after year. But I do follow highlights, perhaps five minutes or less a day, and in that time, here are a few impressions:
While I agree that Trump is reprehensible on so many levels, I’m seeing the cracks in this impeachment process only grow. I suspect that even the Dems may be aware of it and that their aim is only to destabilize Trump enough to throw the coming election. I’m not altogether convinced of the criminality in the supposed quid pro quo with the Ukraine. The Biden family needed to be investigated. Trump is dumb enough to have no sense of the appearance of evil and arrogant enough to push full speed ahead when others objected. Criminal? Whatever you Washington people want to call it. Out here among the unwashed, every day that goes by makes this look more and more like a partisan power grab.
Watching this unfold, I’m more inclined to identify as an unabashed moderate. I don’t like Trump. I dislike the vile pit of vipers known as Democrats. I have equal dislike for many of the factions traditionally known as moderate – country club Republicans especially. But you have to plant your politics somewhere and I always seem to end up closer to the middle – that most despised group of people. Here’s to owning a new kind of party.
