It seems everyone is pulling up stakes, well, not everyone; there’s a pattern to where the most people are moving from and to, likewise, the businesses that are closing down. It used to be simply a movement from high tax areas to lower tax, high cost of doing business to lower cost. Conservative leaders became more explicit and started comparing Democrat run cities against Republican run cities. The differences came into glaring focus during the Covid shutdown panic. Democrats torched their own lairs in cult-like devotion to plainly fear-based, virtue-signaling, party-obedient Covid measures that offered no medical benefit as validated by hard data. In fact, they imposed these measures deliberately counter to hard data. After the George Floyd-BLM-Antifa fiascos where the bluest of cities burned down some of their own most troubled neighborhoods, the death spiral got even worse. Soros bought and paid for dozens of high-profile DAs to turn a blind eye toward crime in the name of equity, or really, simply to burn America to the ground. What began as reactionary demonstrations have become a deeply ingrained movement fully guaranteed to ultimately drive out what will likely be millions of residents and businesses, leaving the so-called disadvantaged in lawless depressed hellscapes. So what? Migrate.
A third of New Yorkers want to leave. Half of Chicago’s Walmart’s are closing. They just elected a mayor that may largely decriminalize crime. Maryland considers a bill to outlaw felonies for anyone under 25 years of age that would assure a robust crime-based job market for young criminals, including budding hitmen. Minneapolis will now broadcast a call to Muslim prayer over loudspeakers throughout the city, symbolizing the complete and final abdication of the municipal authority. What hath progressive hands wrought?
Not all stories end well. I emphasized this in my last entry. Not all of America can be saved. Greater Detroit was substantially razed after the various industrial collapses of the seventies. It’s now a third-tier city. Blue progressive cities have laid the groundwork to follow their worst peers downward. People vote with their feet.
Migration is now a force. When a place becomes irredeemable, it is the last and only option to leave. We have not yet seen how badly a place may fall. If you still live in a blue progressive Democrat run area, you probably already observed the decline in your schools. They’re now hot houses for racial tension and gender identity activism. Maybe your kid got beat up. When stores leave, the prices go up and quality goes down at the remaining stores. Shopping centers become blighted, never to recover, real estate prices suffer but even worse, those properties just remain empty. The onset of systematic lawlessness is the final stage before a full collapse. When ignoring mental illness is ‘compassion’, when homelessness and open drug use is a ‘right’, when deranged individuals push innocent people down the stairs and onto the electrified subway tracks, you’re one random senseless event away from leaving this green earth. The only option is to leave your city or town before you’re the next one.
Migration isn’t easy or even desirable for most people. It’s expensive and people that must leave frequently have to leave behind family or others that they’re fond of. Leaving an area with a depressed real estate market for another that’s thriving – equals more expensive – that’s difficult for all and impossible for many. The only answer is to get out earlier. It may already be too late for some. If you live in a place like Chicago, the timer is short. Maybe you’ll have a little more time in NYC but in Baltimore or Portland, it may already be too late. There’s no set equation and therein lies the challenge. As the water temperature in your pot rises, you, the frog, will do anything to accommodate and downplay the risk of staying. Its human nature. Some make the choice to stay no matter what, but if kids are involved and schools are the big factor, there are no short cuts, no room for error, and trust me, no hope in staying. Your child has only one childhood and it goes in the blink of an eye; it’ll be gone, damage done, there to stay, forever. For all others, stay on the ‘Titanic’ if you must. There is something noble about trying to make it work but just know that being part of movement has a better chance of changing the course of affairs than your individual figurative martyrdom. Don’t be afraid.
