A news story from this past weekend has made the rounds over a snafu started by AOC; that would be Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to anyone not familiar with her eminence. She, a partisan dyed the deepest shade of blue, graced the deep red Florida, Miami to be exact, to enjoy the unparalleled recreation available in that location this past weekend. This is of course notable specifically because Progressives like AOC tried hard to make her home, New York state, a hellhole of Covid regime heavy handedness; bitterly criticizing the red-state Florida and its excellent governor DeSantis, even though and because his light freedom-oriented touch has made that state a bellwether of effective Covid management. A back and forth ensued that served to make her look even more like an ass. The most curious dialogue of this episode occurred at the outset when she accused the GOP of taking out its “sexual frustrations” for not being able to date her and fixating on her instead. This take is quite illuminating and bears some scrutiny.
Her remarks say a lot more about her sexual aspirations than about Republicans. She’s a whore for her cause, or to state another way, she sees herself as engaging in her most authentic trade. Her well-publicized modus operandi is not about work in the traditional sense of legislators, but rather, her influence is formed by relentless social media exposure and non-stop strident declarations. Now that she’s presented us with her Freudian slip, add to that, sex object. Not so literal maybe but held out as an idea. She, her physical self, is the bait and socialism is the hook. She couldn’t have been any more explicit.
Why is AOC even worth the digital ink with which to discuss this? She’s not going away. One can detest her politics, ideology, her crass and clawing ambition, and manifest ignorance on virtually every topic that escapes her mouth, and yet she understands certain principles of unlikely success. By sheer persistence, despite stupefying incompetence, she’s leveraged herself to the point of being on the verge of a senate run and perhaps beyond. As such, she cannot be ignored or taken for granted in any way. One could believe that surely, once she gets out of her deep blue working class district with nothing to gain or lose by her presently held office, any real contest would slap her down.
Unfortunately, we can’t presume any greater sanity by the electorate of New York state, the same ones that had installed Cuomo and DeBlasio and so many other destructive elected persons into prominent offices to their own deep detriment. Beyond that, for national office, we can’t assume that population-dense blue metropolises (plus some institutionalized election rigging under the guise of ‘voter access’) couldn’t propel such a manifestly unqualified individual to the presidency. After all, in her mind, everyone wants to date her. Maybe there’s something to that. Maybe among her generation, that’s all it takes.
One bright spot, or maybe mixed-news bright spot, is that some others in the last election cycle or two have taken some inspiration from AOC and mirrored some of her tactics, with mixed results. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert come to mind. I happen to think this is good and appropriate in the long haul. If all the weak-kneed males in the Republican party are going to sway at the siren call of AOC, I can’t see the same happening with MTG or LB. More so with the dozen other soon to be elected conservative/Republican women that will also learn the trade from AOC. Soon, it should be a dozen to one. Really, it will probably be those women who are our only hope against the irresistible Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
