At first this might sound like an article/essay about climate change – and it is, to some extent – but it’s just as much about a process used by the left to try and dominate issues and adversaries. It’s so simple, but often it’s like trying to grab the proverbial greased pig. Climate change just happens to be a pretty good example. Why? Because ‘weather,’ especially unpleasant and destructive weather, is always happening. Just this past week, we had a hurricane come up the eastern half of the United States. It wrecked some places badly and left other areas alone. It spurred tornadoes, some people died, some places were prepared, and others were not. DeBlasio’s NYC obviously didn’t do enough, both long before the storm arrived, during, or after. People pleaded with the police to check on some residents in non-code-conforming basement apartments, but the police left because only the fire department can break down a door. Somebody had to go in and retrieve the bodies though.
But climate change. Hardly a day goes by that the NYT Daily Brief (a quick news blurb offshoot of the main paper) doesn’t say the words ‘climate change.’ It’s the 100 ‘Hail Marys’ of the left, and it’s applied to a ridiculous long list of, well, basically everything. It’s the cause of poverty, hurt feelings, economic struggle, and evil conservatism. It’s interesting that for that list of illnesses, progressivism, raising taxes, and socialism are the always the answer.
The equation is not unlike the idea of a money machine, a business guaranteed to always produce income and a return. Like the mortuary business, the climate-change peddlers will never run out of customers; it’s the gift that keeps giving. It’s not surprising that climate change people are linked to every last weather event. It thunder-stormed today: this is clearly the result of climate change. It was pretty hot two weeks ago – in the mid 90s – in AUGUST! Climate change. If you set up the equation so that every time it rains, you’re ‘right,’ because you’ve declared the cause of rain is climate change, reasonable people at first pause. Don’t you know that climate change is not the cause of rain? The reasonable person is immediately sidelined, debating lunatic reasoning rather than simply declaring the progressive idiot unfit to render any of his/her opinions. And better yet for them, they’ve succeeded in weaponizing all weather…this system over here, a storm there, a flood, and a fatality over here. “A polar bear died today because of global-warming, and your hardened callous heart does not care. Therefore you’re a killer of the earth and its innocent life forms.” “No I’m not,” you say, but your socialist, fear-mongering friend is already far past the point where he/she is required to prove that the polar bear story is even true. The debate is framed by a platform of accusations while you’re still tangled up in ‘therefores.’
The earth is flooding, but the boundary of the ocean is unchanged (except where land is sinking or rising). There is less ice on one arctic pole, but you’re not allowed to cite that it’s piled high and 20% more on the other pole. A huge glacier cracks into the ocean – what more proof do you need for the evil of capitalism? The sky is blue today, but the stock market may go up or it may go down, it doesn’t matter which one. (You think I jest here?) Climate, nature, the earth, are all constantly rearranging, moving the furniture around. I saw an article about Greenland, a snowy northland, that hides surprising features under its cold crust. It was a rare article that didn’t mention climate change. Why? Because hidden thousands of feet under its glaciers are the surprising remains of temperate lifeforms, recent, at least in geological time. This does not support leftist mythology, and, as such, it was in an obscure periodical.
So, while this is mostly about climate change, just be aware that the same methodologies are being used to manipulate all traditional, rational thinking. When you see someone that calls a woman ‘a person that births’ or a ‘person that menstruates,’ you’re being shoved into a closet to keep you from fighting what really needs to be fought. It’s not unlike the polemic declaring that black conservatives are ‘white,’ ‘white supremacists,’ or ‘racists.’ In their mind, if you’re not a communist zealot, you’re ‘other’ and are not even qualified to hold an argument about their conclusions, and don’t dare even think about challenging their construct.
In many cases, it’s really not even necessary to directly address leftist manipulation logic, and yet most often, too many of us do. If you can speak to the audience of that message rather than the accuser, properly framing the issue, the question, that is enough. Important: don’t even acknowledge the existence of the accuser; even that grants them too much validity. We can say: It rained. It always rains. Sometimes the heaviest rain hits a 100 miles from here and sometimes it hits closer. Maybe it did so 100 years ago or even 1,000 years ago, before any denier conservative ever stepped foot on this land and the forests were only peopled by Native Americans, but it’s no basis to claim that a conservative adversary conjured that storm and guided it by their selfish consumption, their choice of an internal combustion engine vehicle rather than a Prius or better yet, public transportation. It rained. The snow is piled high on one continent today, and 100 years after we’re dead, it’ll be piled elsewhere. It’ll get uncomfortably hot or cold here soon enough, most likely from a volcano or an asteroid, as it has done many times before. The earth keeps its own clock.
