Trump is surging bigly. He’s surging so much that surge articles are also surging and into that fray, I jump. It’s a multi-dimensional phenomenon. Without any pretense of being exhaustive here, Trump is doing very well in legislative, issue and event victories, court victories, policy victories, personal persuasion, approval by his base, concessions by his critics, and even a few outright conversions. Last but not least is the backhanded validation that comes with his enemies’ utter disarray and futility. As I declared and predicted shortly after his election, he’s now openly recognized as besting Saint Ronald; Reagan that is. It’s the economy, Iran, the Middle East, tariffs, Supreme Court victories, jobs, reshaping even the core institutions of the vast bureaucracy, reshaping our international alliances, causing dictators around the globe to re-evaluate their plans for conquest and subjugation. Who is this man? How is he doing it?
I don’t hear anyone offering explanations for how President Donald Trump has become the most transformative leader in the past century, so I will suggest a reason and it is this: he has staked out clear winning positions on almost everything. Many of these positions are painfully obvious. They are the same positions that are available to anyone to choose and endorse. I fully chose some of them by way of personal conviction and tended to some others I was not certain on. His enemies could today, hypothetically, take up all his same positions and could be just as successful, in theory. If ‘winning’ was the ultimate goal, could it really be that easy? Even at the beginning of his first term, he chose to run on populist energy and instincts. The New York ‘suit’ with a penchant for gold furnishings somehow saw and understood six pack Joe. He assimilated that outlook not because he had any identity with Joe, but because he understood Joe’s cause and believed it was worth fighting for because no one else was doing it. He staked out a position that was right because it was the right thing to do. Look at every last one of his successes and you will see that winning formula. Iran really can’t have nukes, no matter what. There are only two sexes. Lawfare is corrupt and wrong. Breaking the law to come into this country is wrong, and double wrong to rob our natural citizens of what is theirs’ in the process. Antisemitism is always wrong no matter what or by whom it is perpetrated. America unfettered by woke-isms really is exceptional. These are ‘easy’ issues, no handwringing needed unless you’re stepped in leftist dogma, are terminally woke, or are psychologically impaired with TDS, Trump Derangement Syndrome. The vast soft ‘middle’ of the electorate finally felt they had permission to return to their native convictions because they finally felt they have a President with a spine to protect them on a lot of issues like these.
So far here, this is all straightforward, even simplistic and yes, there is one further dimension that made all of this possible. There are millions of sincere and strong ‘America First’ adherents that believe what Trump believes but even if they were adept at the machinery of politics, would never have been able to do what Trump has done. What he adds to that is a historical level of perseverance and energy to be able to fight through, over, under and beyond his myriad opposition. There is no one alive today that could have fought through the full force of the Deep State and Democrat led effort to get him and put him behind bars. The assassination attempts added a transcendent force to what he had already been through. His enemies galvanized him in the furnace.
Trump succeeds because he’s on the right side of history and human experience. But it’s supercharged through a level of adversity that no one can begin to understand, certainly not his opposition. You could have one or you can have the other and you would fall short sooner or later. It takes both to do what he’s accomplishing now. Don’t interpret my remarks here as worshipful. The successes speak for themselves, and Trump knows all too well that he can fail, such as when trusting all the wrong people during his first term, to also include the Covid fiasco. Whatever he faces going forward, the two components I mention here cannot be taken from him. They are hard baked into his administration. He’s not invincible and I have no doubt he knows that but expect a lot more winning to come.
