A certain Peter Hotez, declared as a pediatrician and other functions when I googled him, has published an academic paper suggesting that to criticize Dr. Anthony Fauci should be regarded as a hate crime. To get the overview, check out the Newsmax blurb. Why would I take time to critique an obscure hyper-progressive idiot that made the news cycle for one day? Because this kind of gaslighting hyperbole has become almost daily fare from the far left. Deconstructing rhetoric like his is a helpful exercise in dispelling the shock value that results from releasing this kind of daily hate into the news.
The first thing that one notices when reading the paper is that it has little to do with science and it’s almost exclusively an alarmist political statement. Mr. Hotez is not a sociologist, political scientist, or politician. Why would a doctor create an academic paper to make a political statement? Wrong expertise for the good doctor, wrong format for a political statement, and wrong audience — and that’s not even addressing its outrageous conclusions.
The overarching tone is whiney and fearful. Because Hotez is afraid, because Dr. Anthony Fauci is afraid (or so we assume) and because he has been criticized, we must therefore suspend the United States Constitution and the first amendment, to criminalize thought and speech. As you can see, if Hotez had any familiarity with the Constitution at all, if he wrote within his expertise, he might be more hesitant to propose this…but of course not! It’s also plainly on his sleeve that he is a far-left, liberal-progressive, Trump-hating, raging, bigoted partisan. We should expect nothing less from someone of those sentiments. His academic paper is an exercise in emoting. Why then is it reputedly peer reviewed? It’s not hard to find colleges of identical feelings in his small world. ‘Academia’ is an incestuous little pool.
What Peter Hotez fails to address is the merits of any criticism against Fauci and his contemporaries. It’s not like he even tried because the paper is quite short, no longer than a briefing. When your intended audience is politically homogenous peers, you don’t really have to develop a rigorous defense. Is he not fazed at all by Fauci’s flip-flopping? So academics, officials, people who write academic articles, scientists (the ones not silenced by brute force), ‘experts,’ left-wing government, Biden — these are all God or the Pope: infallible? The answers here are painfully obvious even to a barely sentient child.
I just have one other suggestion for Peter Hotez. Why did you stop at the suggestion of ‘hate crime’? Why not go further. Obviously, the dumb beasts, conservatives, Republicans are desperately criminal for their exercise of independent thought. Perhaps they should be rounded up and put in camps — labor camps perhaps. In fact, are you sure they’re even fully human? Maybe they’re only partly human…like three-fifths human. Obviously by your rhetoric Peter Hotez, you view them as well beneath your cerebral dignity. Maybe it would be expedient to come up with a ‘final solution’ to deal with the annoyance. And by the way, who were you calling fascists?
